February was more than just a month of paper hearts at our preschool in Greenacres, Bright Beginnings Prep Academy. Serving our wonderful local families, we dedicated the month to the “Big Three”: Love, Friendship, and Kindness. While the theme was seasonal, the lessons were lifelong.
Creativity with a Purpose
Our Valentine’s Day celebration was a flurry of glitter and glue, but real work was happening behind the scenes!
Fine Motor Skills: Students practiced precision through cutting, gluing, and writing names on handmade cards.
The Joy of Giving: Teachers focused on the feeling of giving, helping children understand how a kind message can brighten someone else’s day.
Learning the Art of Friendship
What does a good friend actually look like? In our Circle Time and Art Centers, we moved beyond “sharing is caring” to explore deeper social skills:
Inclusion: Group projects required students to collaborate, choose colors together, and ensure everyone had a role.
Empathy in Action: We asked big questions like, “How do we show others we care?” and watched as students began to answer with their actions.
Celebrating “Small” Moments of Kindness
Growth happens in the quiet moments between activities. Our teachers made a point to “catch” students being kind and celebrate them on the spot. We saw:
Helping a friend tie a stubborn shoelace.
Offering a favorite toy during free play.
Using “peaceful words” to solve a disagreement.
Try This at Home.” For example: “Ask your child tonight: ‘Who did you see being kind today?'” This turns a passive reader into an active participant in your school’s culture.
Preschool in Greenacres: Looking Ahead
At our preschool in Greenacres, we believe kindness is a skill that grows stronger with practice. Every classroom activity is designed to support social, emotional, and academic development. We finished February feeling “heart-full” and incredibly proud of our students. From practicing patience to sharing heartfelt messages, our Greenacres learners reminded us that kindness is a skill that gets better with practice!
